Magicians win Dickinson invite

DICKINSON – The Minot High boys golf team won its second tournament of the season, claiming the nine-team Dickinson Invitational with a team score of 320 Monday at Heart River Golf Course.

Minot senior Jersey Kelly led the Magicians with a 76. Junior Ty Jones carded an 80 and senior Taran Albright and sophomore Cody Reynolds finished with an 81 and 83, respectively.

Minot finished two strokes ahead of Bismarck and four clear of Century. Jamestown (326), Mandan (334) and Turtle Mountain (334) rounded out the top five.

Turtle Mountain’s Jackson Davis carded a 75 for medalist honors.

The Magicians tee of in Williston at noon on Friday.

Majettes third at round robin

BISMARCK – The Minot High girls tennis team finished third at the eight-team Minot Round Robin on Monday, which was moved to Bismarck due to court conditions.

Minot senior Ban Dodin went 6-1 for a second-place finish. Her only loss came to St. Mary’s Caitlin Bakke. Eighth-grader Jenna Coggins also finished 6-1 and placed second at No. 2 singles. Her only loss came to St. Mary’s Alicia Beck.

Alysa Henson finished third at No. 3 singles and both Minot’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams placed fourth.

The Majettes travel to Century today.

Majettes fifth at Fargo Rotary

FARGO -The Minot High girls track and field team had a pair of runner-up finishes and placed fifth at the 12-team Fargo Rotary on Monday.

Minot’s Else Nelson finished second in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 10 inches and Mackenzie Gleason (120-7) and Jessica Drady (113-6) finished 2-3 in the discus. Drady was fourth in the javeline with a throw of 108-3.

On the track, Sophie Bengson placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 48.43 seconds. Bengson was the first leg of the 400 relay that finished third.

The Majettes travel to Mandan on Saturday.

Ryan softball sweeps Dickinson

DICKINSON – The Bishop Ryan softball team stymied Dickinson on Monday, sweeping the Midgets 8-1 and 4-0 in a West Region doubleheader.

Ryan junior Hannah Stewart threw a complete-game five-hitter in Game 1, scattering five hits and striking out 11. Maddie Lipp, Sheyenne Schmidt and Sydney Marmon all went 3-for-4.

Brieann Backes blanked Dickinson in the nightcap, allowing four hits and striking out 10. The Lions scored all four of their runs in the third. Schmidt went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Anika Rovig finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Ryan plays Minot High today at 4 p.m. at South Hill Complex.

O’Keefe shoots opening-round 79

EUREKA, Mo. – Minot State junior Kowan O’Keefe carded a 7-over 79 in the first round of the NCAA Division II men’s Midwest/Central Regional on Monday at Fox Run Golf Club.

O’Keefe is in a five-way tie for 77th.

He tees off in the second round this morning at 8:20.
