Minot AFB airman named outstanding in entire Air Force

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE A Minot Air Force Base airman has been awarded as one of the top 12 outstanding young airmen in the entire Air Force for his superior performance in his duties as part of the 91st Missile Wing.

Staff Sgt. David Wallace, of the 91st Security Forces Group, was nominated by his leadership for the Air Force’s 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year award.

The award recognizes outstanding enlisted service members for superior leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements. After winning amongst other Air Force Global Strike Command nominees, Wallace advanced to the Air Force level, where he competed with many other airmen. Wallace was recently announced as one of the winners for 2014.

“The Air Force 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year award is … rarely seen at the base level,” said Col. Kevin Cullen, 91st Security Force Group commander. “In fact, I’ve only met one other award winner in my entire 22-year career.”

The winners earn the Outstanding Airman ribbon with the bronze service star device and wear the Outstanding Airman badge for one year. They also serve on the Air Force Enlisted Council for one year.

Wallace works in the Plans and Programs office for the 91st Security Force Group at Minot AFB. His duties include providing tactical and strategic support for the security movements of vital national assets across the prairies of North Dakota. He was recognized as a “superior performer” during the base’s Air Force Global Strike Command staff assistance visit. He reinvigorated seven-year-old Site Defense Plans for 165 strategic facilities. He’s also performed as an exercise controller during three major wing-level training events.

In Wallace’s personal time he has worked with the Girls Scouts Dakota Horizon in Minot and has personally led volunteer efforts for Habitat for Humanity in North Dakota.

“As a key member of the 91st Security Force Group Plans and Programs office, David simply touches every aspect of the entire 91st Missile Wing,” said Cullen. “His impeccable duty performance, tireless self-improvement and selfless community involvement are all superb; David represents everything’s that’s right about our Air Force and Team Minot, and we’re lucky to have him!”
