Helen Kjonaas, 87, Minot, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the ProHealth Home Care Assisted Living in Minot.
Helen Rhoads was born May 15, 1926, in Glenburn, the daughter of Emory and Frances (Phillips) Rhoads. She attended school in Glenburn and graduated from Glenburn High School in 1944.
She married Kenneth Kjonaas on Oct. 14, 1945, in Glenburn. Following their marriage, they lived on the Kjonaas family farm until 1956, when they moved into Glenburn. They continued to farm until their retirement. In 1995, Ken and Helen moved to Minot. Ken passed away Jan. 15, 2004.
Helen was a member of First Baptist Church of Glenburn since childhood. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, served on various boards and was an active member of the ladies church circle. In 1999, she became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Minot, where she was an active member of the American Baptist Women’s Shining Light Circle and served in the church’s soup kitchen.
Helen’s loving family includes: sons, Don Kjonaas, Anoka, Minn., Richard (Debbie) Kjonaas, Terre Haute, Ind., Bob (Linda) Kjonaas, Bismarck; and daughter, Karen (Bob) Holmen, Minot; nine grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Kjonaas, Kevin Kjonaas, Michael Orth, Tammy Kjonaas, Christy (Nate) Hyer, Tim (Jada) Kjonaas, Andy Kjonaas, Alyssa Holmen and Kallie Holmen; nine great-grandchildren, Amias and Tobin Kjonaas, Alicia and Cassidy Orth, Abigail and Evelyn Hyer, Andrew and Billi Sue Kjonaas and Cameron Schestler; sister-in-law, Helen Ellingson, Carnduff, Sask.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and sisters, Carol Garney and Clarice Nelson Bouw.
Funeral: Tuesday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
