N.D. group to visit submarine base next week
A group of North Dakotans will be going to Groton, Conn., area next week to visit the Naval submarine base and also see the USS North Dakota submarine.
Twenty-eight people from northwest North Dakota and 10 people from Bismarck are making the trip.
Initially, the group planned to attend the commissioning of the USS North Dakota that was scheduled for May 31 at Groton, but the commissioning was postponed in April because of redesign work being done on the submarine.
The North Dakota group’s activities at Groton will include touring the base, attending the graduation of the current Basic Enlisted Sub School class, touring the USS North Dakota in the shipyard and visiting the historic USS Nautilus and museum.
The trip was arranged by the New Town and Watford City American Legion posts and the North Dakota Vietnam Veterans.
