Area Legion post plans Korean War Veterans Honor Flight
NEW TOWN Several Korean War veterans and their spouses will be going to Washington, D.C., on a Korean War Veterans Honor Flight.
The veterans are from the New Town-Parshall area and the trip is being financed by New Town American Legion Post 290.
The highlight of the group’s trip is a visit to the Korean War Veterans Memorial. They will also tour other sites in the Washington area.
The group will leave from Minot next week. In Washington, they will be joined by members of another group from northwest North Dakota who are going earlier to the Naval submarine base at Groton, Conn., and also to see the USS North Dakota submarine. That group will accompany the Korean War veterans to the sites in Washington.
Dave Hilleren, commander of the Legion post, and Jerome Jarski, sergeant-at-arms, are in charge of arranging the Korean War Veterans Honor Flight. They said fundraisers have been held for the trip but more will be done.
