James M. English, 90, Harvey, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, May 27, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 26, at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, with prayer services at 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey.
Burial will be in St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery, Harvey.
James “Jim” English was born Aug. 30, 1923, at Harvey. He was the son of James P. and Madeline (Conroy) English. Jim grew up in Harvey and attended high school there. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone for five years. He then began working with his father in his dray and trucking business. Jim took over the dray and trucking business after his father’s death in 1958. He later became affiliated with Hart Motor Express and Twin City Freight until his retirement in 1986.
Jim married Betty Zerr on April 18, 1949, in Harvey.
Jim was a lifetime Harvey resident and was knowledgeable on area history. He was a CB radio enthusiast and enjoyed conversing with truckers and other radio operators.
Jim was a lifetime member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights Of Columbus Council # 5217, Catholic Order of Forresters and a charter member of the Wells Eagles Aerie # 3080, both of Harvey.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years; three sons, James J. (Donna) English, of Harvey, Michael (Lynn) English, of Minot, Patrick (Irene) English, of Fargo; daughter, Julie (Gene) Crabtree, of Jamestown; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (Eleanor) English, of Fargo.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Virginia Glaser, Geraldine Rockstad and Eileen Wiest.
