LaVina E. Huber, 80, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., formerly of Minot, died Friday, May 23, 2014, in the Inver Grove Good Samaritan Center, Inver Grove Heights.
LaVina E. Salzer was born July 29, 1933, a daughter of John and Christina (Gohl) Salzer, in Danzig. She was raised and educated in Ashley, graduating from Ashley High School in 1952.
On June 10, 1952, LaVina was united in marriage to Ruben Huber in Ashley. Together they were involved in various business operations, including Huber’s Sprinkler Service, where LaVina did bookkeeping and payroll. Huber’s is an underground lawn watering system they started in 1958, when such systems were still new in the Minot area. For a brief period in the 1950s, they also operated a chinchilla ranch. From 1962 to 1971, LaVina also worked for the Minot Credit Bureau. Ruben died Jan. 2, 1994. LaVina continued to live in Minot until 2008, when she moved to Inver Grove Heights to be near family.
LaVina enjoyed embroidery, reading and cooking. She was best known as a spectacular cook, especially at Van Hook/Sakakawea Lake. She particularly was good at making strudels. She also enjoyed bowling, and won numerous awards. LaVina was a former member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.
LaVina is survived by: daughter, Debbie (Mike) Doede, Inver Grove Heights; brothers, Clarence (Bernice) Salzer, Bismarck, John (Phyllis) Salzer, Ashley; sisters, Irene Novotny, Roseville, Minn., LuElla Blumhardt, Venturia; special nephews, Scott Salzer, Todd Salzer, Mark Salzer and their families; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
LaVina was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Raymond and Eugene.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Funeral: Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
