Kenneth ‘Ken’ West
Kenneth “Ken” West, 62, Minot, died unexpectedly Monday, May 26, 2014, in a Minot hospital.
Kenneth L. West was born Dec. 11, 1951, a son of Eldon and Mildred (Dahlin) West, in Kenmare. Ken grew up in Kenmare where he was active in Scouts, American Legion Baseball, hunting and fishing. Ken was a member of the Kenmare High School Band, where he won numerous honors. He graduated with the class of 1969.
Ken was an avid shooter and participated in competition shooting with his dad. Following high school he attended Minot State College and began working for Bowbells Grain Elevator. He later began his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad where he was employed for 29 years, at which time he was put on disability.
Ken was united in marriage to Mary Seney (Feist) on Feb. 12, 1993, in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where Ken remained with the railroad until retiring in 2002 due to a work-related disability. He was currently employed by Enerbase working a couple of days a week for a little something to do in his spare time.
During retirement, Ken enjoyed fishing, hunting, yard work and camping. Ken loved to dance away the night with his lovely wife Mary! They also spent many hours in the boat fishing.
He was an avid bowler and coached the youth scratch team at North Hill Bowl. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins Fan. Anytime he would sit down to enjoy a game his four-legged friends, Mac, Tigger and Peanut, were soon joining him on his lap and couch. They will miss him dearly. Ken was a member of the YMCA and the United States Bowling Conference.
Ken is survived by: Wife of 21 years, Mary, Minot; daughters, Stephanie West, Sioux Falls, S.D., Stacy West, Ottowa, Kan., Deanna West, Sioux Falls, and Denae West, Sioux Falls; two stepsons, Derick Seney, Minot, Daren (fiancee, Sarah Magnuson) Seney, Minot; grandchildren, Tatyanna, Trevahn, Taliyah, Tayshawn, Iesha, Omarian, Destinee and Jeremiah; brother, Mick (Debbie) West, Montrose, Colo.; sister, Jodi (Daniel) Hullinger, Fairborn, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Randi) Feist, Minot, Gerard Feist, Fargo, Greg Feist, Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Gayle (Steve) East, Goldbar, Wash., and Claudia Brendle, Minot; mother-in-law, Dolores Feist, Velva; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ken was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Fred and Daisy West, Carl and Edith Dahlin; parents, Eldon and Mildred West; father-in-law, Tony Feist; uncles, Donald, Merlin amd Milton Dahlin, Jim Henderson; aunt, Dolores Henderson; granddaughter, Faith; brother-in-law, Ronnie; nephews, Michael and Anthony.
Memorial service: Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Burial: A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Visitation: There will be no reviewal; however, friends may sign a guest register on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials may be given to the Youth Bowling Scholarship Fund, Minot.
