Wade Sundsbak

Wade A. Sundsbak, 53, Minot, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Wade was born Oct. 3, 1960, in Minot, the son of Lane and Leah (Monson) Sundsbak. He was raised and educated in Des Lacs and graduated from Des Lacs High School in 1979. After graduation Wade attended North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, where he graduated in 1982 earning his degree as an electrical technician. Wade moved to Minot where he was employed with various companies before he started working civil service at Minot Air Force Base. Wade worked for the base for 28 years and was superintendent of the electrical department. His hard work and electrical expertise led him to many awards including multiple civilian employee of the year awards, numerous performance awards and an award for saving the life of a fellow employee.

He was an active member of Pheasants for the Future for 31 years. In this time, he served on the board of directors and he helped create and develop the very successful pheasant chick program. Wade cultivated many long-lasting friendships through the club, and the club gave him an outlet to promote and protect one of his most beloved past times, hunting.

Wade loved the outdoors. On a nice summer day, you were sure to find Wade picking chokecherries with Jana, on the golf course with friends, or in the boat fishing on the lake with his boys. He looked forward to fishing the N.D. Governors Cup Tournament every year with his nephew, Chris. As soon as the leaves began to change in the fall, Wade geared up for hunting season. Wade made countless memories with his family and many, many friends during this time, whether it was deer hunting out on the land, or the annual pheasant hunting trip with his good friends. Not only did he teach his boys how to hunt, but he also stressed the importance of hunting as a means of conservation.

No matter what time of year, on Sunday mornings, Wade spent time with his family in Des Lacs having coffee and enjoying the company of his parents, brothers and sisters, and all of the young ones. He was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle and a loving grandfather. Family was the most important aspect of his life, and he cherished every moment with them, but nothing fulfilled him more than his granddaughter, Laney. She was his pride and joy, the light that brightened his day. He frequently sent her packages just as a surprise to let her know he was always thinking about her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
