Sibyl Center presents Highway 43
STANLEY – Guitarist Carl Kannianen, of the Stanley/Belden area, performs with the Turtle Mountain musical group “Highway 43” on Sunday, June 8, at the Sibyl Center in Stanley at 3 p.m. Dick and Brenda Johnson, along with the band’s regular guitarist, Ron Hett, have been performing at events throughout the area since 2007 including the Norsk Hostfest, school reunions, community celebrations, fundraisers, corporate conventions and the Frozen Fingers Festival, Minot’s annual winter music festival.
Kannianen ‘s style of guitar “complements the group well as they play country, gospel, rock-a-billy, and even some rock and roll” when he performs with the band on a fill-in basis, according to a press release.
Dick Johnson sings lead vocals and plays guitar while his wife, Brenda, plays the standup bass. Kannianen plays leads on the guitar for some numbers and also sings some of the old favorites.
“We try to do several different types of music to catch the interest of everyone in the audience. If you like the songs of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and others from that era, you will enjoy Highway 43,” the group stated in the release.
The Sibyl Center is at 301-1st. St. SW. Admission is by free will donation at the door. For more information, phone 628-2130 or go to (sibylcenter.org).
