Mae Olivia Olson, 92, Minot, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, in a Minot nursing home.
Mae was born Sept, 25, 1921, in Glenburn, the daughter of Olie and Martha (Ovrevik) Thompson. She graduated from Glenburn High School in 1939. She married Stuart August Olson on Oct. 26, 1941, and they raised five children. They moved to Minot where Mae began working at Trinity Hospital, Minot Air Force Base Hospital and later at the Vets Hospital. In 1952, Mae and Stuart became charter members at Christ Lutheran Church where they brought up their family. In 1960, the family moved to Fullerton, Calif., where Mae worked at Anaheim Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aid for more than 10 years. In 1972, Mae, Stuart and Brian returned to Glenburn where she was the city auditor for four years. They moved to Houston, Texas, where she worked at the Houston Baptist University in purchasing student loans. She and Stuart moved back to Minot where she retired and started doing volunteer work at Trinity Homes and Christ Lutheran Church. Stuart passed away in 1994.
Mae enjoyed raising her family, reading, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, traveling and word puzzles. During her early years Mae loved to travel to visit family in California and Texas. In the past few years the family has been coming to Minot to see her which she loved and always looked forward to. In 2007, Reesha moved back to Minot from California to help care for her mother.
Mae was an active member at Christ Lutheran Church where she volunteered for soup kitchen, weddings, funerals and office work.
Survivors: sons, Dennis (Vicki) Olson, Houston, and Brian (Nancy) Olson, League City, Texas; daughters, Reesha Lane, Minot, Cheryl (Calvin) Beckman, Yorba Linda, Calif., and Gloria Busse, Orange, Calif.; six grandchildren, Steve, Richard, Irene, Paul, Brad and Kurt; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Rylie, Katy, David, Gavin and Aiden Von; one great-great-grandchild, Danika; and brother, Lawrence (Opal) Thompson, Minot.
Mae is preceded in death by: her husband, Stuart; parents; granddaughter, Brenda; brother, Tilman Thompson; three sisters, Clara Griffin, Louise Marum and Pearl Christianson; and son-in-law, Mike Busse.
Funeral Service: Monday, June 16, at 10 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday, May 15, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
