Vistas let early lead slip against Mandan
MANDAN – The Minot Vistas American Legion baseball team squandered a seven-run lead Thursday in a 12-11, nine-inning loss to the Mandan Chiefs.
Minot (6-10) scored five runs in both the top of the first and third innings to build a 10-3 lead and chase Mandan’s Parker Harm.
“We worked so hard the first three innings and got their ace Parker Harm knocked off the hill,” Vistas coach Todd Larson said. “We tried to warn them that there was still a lot of game left.”
The Vistas led 11-8 entering the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t hold on.
Minot’s Demitry Zafra went eight innings for a no-decision. Shawn Danielson and Alex Arrayan pitched in relief in the ninth, with Arrayan suffering the loss. Mandan’s Bryce Andressen tossed the final seven innings to notch the win.
Alex Mack and Hunter Duttenhefer each went 3-for-5 with two RBis for the Vistas.
“Tough loss because we played really well for eight innings,” Larson said. “We just didn’t finish.”
