Charles Hystad, 62, Velva, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in a Bismarck hospital.
Charles “Chuck” Hystad was born May 2, 1952, a son of Charles “Budd” and June (Rolene) Hystad, in Minot. He was raised and educated in Velva, graduating from Velva High School in 1970.
Following graduation, Chuck worked in the gold mines of Lead, S.D., until 1973, when he moved to Vancouver, Wash. While in Vancouver, he worked for Alcoa Aluminum. In the fall of 1982, he returned to Velva where he worked as an over-the-road, long-haul truck driver, retiring in 1992 due to health reasons.
Chuck was once married to Judith Heizelman. To this union two daughters were born, Tammi and Sara.
He enjoyed watching baseball, and fishing and hunting.
Chuck was a member of the Oak Valley Lutheran Church, in Velva.
Chuck is survived by: daughters, Tammi (Matthew) Schatz, Velva, and Sara (Mark) Merck, West Fargo; four grandchildren, Samantha Schatz, Mallory Schatz, Addyson Merck and Avery Merck; two great-grandchildren, Aralyn and Trace; mother, June Hystad, Velva; sisters, Crystal Hystad, Velva, Susan (Guy) Nicholls, West Fargo, and Jill Hystad, Velva; along with several nieces, a great-nephew and several cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by: his father, Charles “Budd” Hystad; paternal grandparents, Mag and Lina Hystad, and maternal grandparents, Edward and Minnie Rolene.
Funeral Service: Monday, June 30, at 11 a.m., at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.
Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva.
Visitation: Monday, June 30, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
