Alvin Dravland

Alvin Dravland, 86, of Bottineau, died Thursday at a Bismarck care center. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Visitation will be Monday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Alvin Theodore Dravland, a son of Albert and Lillian (Fagerlie) Dravland, was born May 26, 1928, at Duluth, Minn. At a young age, he moved with his family to Landa for a short time before moving to a farm just west of Bottineau. He attended country school and and received his GED later in life. He entered the Navy June 29, 1951, and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on June 16, 1955. He married Clarice Bergh on Nov. 25, 1955, at Sinai, SD. They moved to Tolley, where Alvin farmed before returning to the Dravland family farm. He farmed and raised dairy cattle. In 1977, he changed to a beef cattle operation. He retired from farming in 1978. He drove school bus for many years and also did custom haying in the area. Clarice passed away on Dec. 7, 2012.

Alvin was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bottineau where he served on the church council and was active in adult Bible study. He served as a Cub Scout leader for many years. He was chairman of the Bottineau County Food Pantry for many years. He was a soil and wildlife conservationist and enjoyed planting trees and other habitat.

He is survived by: Sons, Paul Alvin Dravland, of Souris, and David Keith Dravland, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; daughter, Sara Lynn Gunsch (Bryon) of Minneapolis; granddaughter, Lily Clarice Gunsch, Minneapolis; brothers, Ordean Dravland, Aurora, Colo., and James Dravland, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Faith Marie Dravland; an infant son; a granddaughter, Ariana Faith Loustaunau Dravland; and a brother, Lyle Dravland.
