A double mother and daughter memorial service will be held at New Hope Lutheran church in Upham on Sunday, July 6, at 2 p.m. A potluck reception will follow at 2:45 p.m. in the Upham Senior Hall.

Dorothy Swearson passed away June 3, 2012, in a nursing home in Issaquah, Wash., at the age of 92. Faye passed away on July 8, 2013, in her home in Issaquah. She had planned on bringing her mother’s ashes home to North Dakota when she herself was diagnosed with bone cancer. She was unable to make the trip herself but was overjoyed in her last weeks to be told that we, her family would make the journey for her and bring them both home.

Dorothy was born Oct. 27, 1919, in Bantry, the daughter of Jacob and Edna Petersen. She was raised on a cattle ranch near Bantry. She married Fred Swearson on Aug. 4, 1941, in Towner. They operated the family cattle ranch near Bantry until 1968 when they moved to Issaquah. She worked for Issaquah High School for many years. She attended the Community Church of Issaquah and enjoyed traveling, bowling and playing cards.

At the time of her death she was survived by: a daughter, Faye M. Oelrich, of Issaquah; grandson, Brad Rau and Julie Rau, of Las Vegas; and great-grandson Sebastian Rau.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred, in 2002 and grandson Brian Rau in 2005.

Faye Rau was born Jan. 26, 1943, in Rugby, to Fred and Dorothy Swearson. She grew up in Bantry and attended school in Upham. She later completed the business program at North Dakota State School of Science at Wahpeton. Faye used her business skills while working as a legal secretary for Thomas Wittington Law Office and as a office manager for Harold Tate CPA.

Faye was once married to Edgar Emil Rau, who she married on Dec. 26, 1962. They moved to Fresno, Calif., and resided there for a short time before moving to Washington State in 1970. They lived in Redmond, Bellevue and Maple Valley before moving to Issaquah where she made her home for 18 years.

Faye married long-time Issaquah resident Merritt Oelrich on Feb. 16, 1991. Faye was a member of the Issaquah Guild, Children’s Hospital, Elks Club and Eagles Club. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests including casino hopping, traveling, visiting with family and friends and playing games with her grandson.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Merritt, in 1999 and her son Brian in 2005.

She is survived by: her son, Bradley Rau; daughter-in-law, Julie Rau; grandson, Sebastian Rau; stepdaughters, Amy Bell, Kerri Ferate; and stepgrandchildren, Daren and Eric Bell, Bryant and Annette Ferate and Michelle Stringfellow.

Inurnment for Dorothy and Faye will be in Union Cemetery at Bantry.
