Bertha Fitzgerald

MOHALL Bertha Borghild Fitzgerald, 96, Mohall, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, peacefully in her sleep at a Mohall nursing home.

Bertha was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Tolley, to Emil and Ella (Lanes) Husby. She grew up on a farm north of Tolley and attended grade school at McKinney School and graduated from Tolley High School.

Bertha married (Thomas) Franklin Fitzgerald on June 23, 1940. She worked in the shipyard near Seattle while Frank was in the service. After returning to Mohall, they owned and operated the Mohall Dry Cleaners for several years. Bertha also worked at the Paragon Cafe, Mohall Hotel, Mouse River Park Cafe, and in later years, as part of the Green Thumb program at the Renville County Courthouse. She entered the Good Samaritan Society, Mohall, in 2009.

Bertha was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, and the ladies aide there. She enjoyed reading, sewing and interacting with the nursing home staff.

Family: sons, Tom (Alice) Fitzgerald, Phoenix, Ore., Gary (Annette) Fitzgerald, Oakes; daughter, Mary Ann Volkert (Bill Eischens), Apple Valley, Minn.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bertha was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Frank; daughter, Beverly Ann; sisters, Helen Wright and Lillie May; and brother, Elmer Husby.

Funeral: Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m., at the Good Samaritan Society, Mohall.

Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery, Mohall.

Visitation: Today, 2 to 7 p.m., at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall.

Memorials: Memorials preferred to the Good Samaritan Society, Mohall.
