Parks open on 4th of July, no festival this year

After what seemed like a constant event year after year, the annual Festival of the Parks held on the Fourth of July holiday will be missing from this year’s celebration schedule.

Ron Merritt, director of parks for the Minot Park District, said there are no festivities planned in any of the parks this Fourth of July. The organizational group, the Festival of the Parks committee, who were a group of volunteers from the community, have taken a year off from meeting and plan to reorganize at a later time.

“We’re open to new ideas next year,” Merritt said. The park district would also be open to partnering with other groups in the city and doing something different, he added.

However, all of the parks are open on Independence Day, such as the Roosevelt Park Zoo and the Roosevelt Park Pool. Also, the fireworks show will continue as usual. Those are set to explode at the fairgrounds after the races at Nodak Speedway on the state fairgrounds.
