NDHP Superintendent retires
Colonel James Prochniak, who has been the superintendent of the North Dakota Highway Patrol since 2009, retired from the organization Monday.
Michael Gerhart Jr., a native of Dickinson, was promoted to the rank of colonel and became the superintendent of the Nighway Patrol Tuesday. He has been with the patrol since 1992.
Prochniak, a native of Fargo, joined the patrol in 1987 by attending the NDHP academy. Through his career he was stationed in Bismarck, Minnewauken, Casselton and Fargo but was stationed at the headquarters in Bismarck since becoming superintendent.
He had reached his time of retirement eligibility, a spokesman with the patrol said, and decided to retire.
