William J. Slater, 84, of Belcourt, died July 3, 2014, in his home.
He was born Sept. 6, 1929, in St. John to John and Mary Slater. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and received an honorable discharge in 1953. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal during his overseas service. Bill married Leona Vivier on April 7, 1956, in St. John.
Survivors: daughter, Marilyn “Renee” Slater, Belcourt; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Edward, Belcourt.
Funeral: Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Belcourt.
Burial: St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt.
Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the church, with Rosary service at 7 p.m.
