Williamson eighth player to sign with MSU baseball

Minot State baseball has added its eighth recruit for the upcoming season as Kyle Williamson has signed to join the Beavers in the fall.

The 5-foot-8, 145-pound Williamson hails from Aurora, Ore. He played both shortstop and outfield during his prep career and could figure in the mix at middle infield or outfield for the Beavers, MSU coach Brock Weppler said in a press release.

“Kyle is an outstanding athlete so we have a couple different options,” Weppler said. “We like to find versatile players like him that gives us options. We are looking at second base or the outfield.”

Williamson was a two-time conference player of the year at North Marion High School. He was also selected to the all-state first team the past two seasons.

Williamson batted .506 in 2014 with 13 doubles and six triples, while swiping 23 stolen bases out of 26 attempts.

The Beavers, coming off a 19-23 season and a 13-15 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record, have added eight incoming student-athletes in their 2014 recruiting class.
