What’s Happening in Arts & Entertainment 7-17-14
The Minot Area Council of the Arts presents the 2014 Arts in the Park series at Oak Park. Admission is free to all regular events. Upcoming concerts include: tonight, the Minot City Band’s “Sousa Concert,” 7 p.m., art guests Mandi Zavalney, cakes, and Diana Hamm, Izzy B’s Originals; Sunday, July 20, JMB Band, 4 and 7 p.m., art guest Tina Hjelmstad, mixed media; Thursday, July 24, The Dance Company, 7 p.m., art guest Mavis Meyer; and Sunday, July 27, GreenMan Band, 4 and 7 p.m., art guest Society for Creative Anacronism.
History Alive! returns to the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center, 22 miles southwest of Williston at Fort Buford, on Saturday and Sunday, with Arch Ellwein presenting Vic Smith, “Champion Buffalo Hunter,” at 2 and 6 p.m. each day. Also, nationally renowned Theodore Roosevelt impersonator Joe Wiegand will be at the Center on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. He will present a public program at 1 p.m.
Celtic guitarist Jerry Barlow will perform a concert at the Minot Public Library on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Barlow brings traditional Celtic tunes alive by sharing the history, humor and legends behind the music. The program is offered free to the community by the Friends of the Library.
Minot State University will host a luau party at the North Dakota State Fair on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will be in the outdoor area of the Flickertail Gardens, and admission is free. Slamabama, a cover band that plays selections from country to rock, will begin performing at 6 p.m. There will also be drink specials and prizes. Mouse River Players Community Theater will have a fundraising rummage sale July 30 and Aug. 1-2 at The Arlene Theater, 115-1st St. SE. Contributions, other than clothing, are welcome. Call 838-3939 to arrange a drop-off or pick-up or delivery time. All proceeds go to the theater.
The Minot Area Theatrical Society is holding auditions for the play “Elvis Has Left The Building” Aug. 1-2 at The Vegas Motel in the conference/board room by the pool at 6 p.m. If you are not able to make it or have any questions please contact Donald Pitsiladis at 818-4095.
