Dr. Perry Nermoe

May 3, 1950-July 18, 2014

Dr. Perry Jay Nermoe, 64, Towner , died July 18, 2014, doing what he loved, farming.

Perry was born to Palmer Joseph Nermoe and his wife, Pauline Margaret Thordarson Nermoe, in Rugby on May 3, 1950. He grew up on his family ranch in Gilmore Township, McHenry County. He graduated with honors from Upham High School in 1968 as co-salutatorian. He continued his education by earning an associate degree from North Dakota State University at Bottineau. He was honored in the “Who’s Who Among Student’s” in American Junior Colleges.

He finished his education at the University of Minnesota with a degree of doctor of veterinary medicine. He then started his career as a veterinarian in Gonvik, Minn.

Seeing the need for animal health services, he returned to North Dakota in 1980 and opened the Towner Veterinary Service. He operated the clinic and served the area ranches with devotion until 1999. He also operated the Rugby Veterinary Clinic for a time. After leaving the clinic, Perry continued his dedication to help area ranchers with their livestock as a free-lance vet. He also provided veterinary services to the Rugby Livestock Auction, something he truly enjoyed. You could always find him at the auction on a Thursday morning.

Aside from his dedication to veterinary medicine he was an avid farmer and rancher in Gilmore and Hougom Township which was his true passion. You would most often find Perry tending to his cattle or out in the field haying while listening to a game of either the Minnesota Twins or Minnesota Vikings, his two favorite teams.

He will be remembered for his devotion to serving area ranchers and their livestock. He was a giving man that could never decline a request for assistance from his friends and neighbors.

He married Patricia Fassett in Portal on Sept. 4, 1971. They were later divorced.
