Soup kitchens: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Immanuel Baptist Church, 1615-2nd St. SE, and from 5 to 6:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 1000-3rd St. NE.

The Lord’s Cupboard Welcome Table food pantry is available Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at 7-1st St. SE. The pantry is also available Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m.

Minot State University will host a luau party at the North Dakota State Fair from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will be in the outdoor area of the Flickertail Gardens, and admission is free. Slamabama will begin performing at 6 p.m. There will also be drink specials and prizes.

The Minot State University Summer Theatre group presents “Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” directed by Kevin Neuharth, at the MSU Amphitheater. All performances begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for students and seniors, $5 for children 12 and under, and $3 for MSU faculty, staff and summer students. Donations of school supplies will be accepted on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Town and Country Credit Union, 615 S. Broadway. A bus will be located in the parking lot and Sunrise Rotary Club will be accepting your donations. The second annual Velva Volunteer Fire and Rescue Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at Star City Golf Course, north of Velva on N.D. Highway 41. Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the 10 a.m. shotgun start. Tournament is open to the public. Cost is $200 per four-man scramble team. Prizes will be awarded to top three places. The Give360 Color Dash 5k will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Roosevelt Park. The Color Dash 5k is an untimed, family-friendly run/walk to raise money for planning for a children’s museum in Minot. Color Dashers will start in white t-shirts and get pelted with color explosions. Post-race activities will include additional color explosions, live music, dance contest, and more fun activities for participants and spectators. Registration is $40 for individuals, $35 for teams, and $85 for families. The event is hosted by Give360, a giving circle within the Minot Area Community Foundation. For more information, go to ( or
