Marie adored her six grandsons and loved the time she spent with all of them. She especially enjoyed spending time with them and others at their Lake Metigoshe home. Hunting turtles, fishing, chasing fireflies and bonfires were a few of the things they liked to do. Fireworks on the Fourth of July was a great time at the lake.
Marie’s career was taking care of kids. She started at Surrey School by helping in the classroom and ended at Surrey Schools as the food services director. She took great pride in her work and spoiled everyone with wonderful meals. Marie was even awarded special recognition for her breakfast program. In 1984, she was awarded the School Food Service Member of the Year. She tracked kids’ grades and progress to prove the importance of a balanced breakfast. She also loved her 5-mile walks at the lake and was known to turn up the volume when Elvis was singing.
