Mark Bahl, 58, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014, in the comfort of his home, with his wife and five sons at his side. He was diagnosed 11 months ago with the aggressive brain cancer, Glioblastoma.
Mark Ronald Bahl was born on March 2, 1956, the son of Ronald and Eleanor Bahl in Minot. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Bishop Ryan High School and from the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton.
Mark lived in various locations throughout his lifetime, including Minot, Michigan and Wisconsin. He held various positions including assistant plant manager at Morris Rodweeder, until plant operations were moved to Canada. He then worked for the Local 300 in numerous nuclear and industrial plants. Mark was a business owner and built several homes, including one of his own.
Mark was united in marriage to Jo Nostdahl on June 29, 1985. They recently celebrated 29 years of marriage. They were blessed with five sons: Jon was born Feb. 2, 1989, Alex on March 28, 1991, Landon on May 6, 1992, Grayson on Feb. 10, 1996, and Mikel on Nov. 8, 2000. Mark’s passion was his sons. His favorite place to spend time with his family was at his cabin at Lake Metigoshe. He took great enjoyment and spent countless hours teaching all of his sons how to ski. He took so much pride in his sons and their accomplishments he would tear up just talking about them. He never missed an important day in any of their lives. Mark’s winters were dedicated to his sons’ hockey practice, games, and building his outdoor rinks. In the fall, he loved going hunting with his boys.
Throughout his illness, he never once complained, and would always crack a joke, even on his worst days. His concerns were always and only about his wife and boys’ needs, even when he knew he was losing the battle. This was not unique to Mark, as he was truly a selfless person.
Mark’s many tangible awards and times of recognition will never hold a candle in relation to the significance that his presence and his life had upon all who were lucky enough to have known him. Through his influence on the action of all his friends and family, especially his five sons, his legacy will not only continue to live on, but it will thrive. His fireside jokes and humor will be greatly and forever missed. You are so forever loved!
