The Minot Area Council of the Arts presents the 2014 Arts in the Park series at Oak Park. Admission is free to all regular events. Upcoming concerts include: tonight, Marsha Mugaas, 7 p.m., art guest Kathleen Cunningham, handmade envelopes; Sunday, Dakota Rose Band, 4 and 7 p.m., art guest Amy Allender Smith; Thursday, Aug. 7, “At the Hop,” featuring the Treblemakers, 7 p.m., guests Dakota Cruisers classic cars, root beer floats by Sons of Norway, and gyros and baklava by St. Peter’s.
Mouse River Players Community Theater will have a fundraising rummage sale today and Friday at The Arlene Theater, 115-1st St. SE. All proceeds go to the theater.
The Minot Area Theatrical Society is holding auditions for the play “Elvis Has Left The Building” Friday and Saturday at The Vegas Motel in the conference/board room by the pool at 6 p.m. If you are not able to make it or have any questions please contact Donald Pitsiladis at 818-4095.
The 26th annual Great Tomato Festival will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the North Dakota State Fair Center’s 4-H Hall. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Social begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7. Live music will be performed by Dakota Dixie will a silent auction throughout the evening. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Must be 21 to attend. Proceeds benefit the Minot Public Library, Taube Museum of Art, Minot Symphony Orchestra and the Lewis and Clark Fort Mandan Foundation. Tickets are available at the Taube, the library, The Computer Store, Artmain and Artistry
The public is invited to celebrate 125 years of history at North Dakota’s 125th Celebration Party on the Capitol Mall in Bismarck on Saturday, Aug. 16. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and run throughout the day. Performances scheduled include Watford City native Jessie Veeder and Dakota Air.
Mouse River Players Community Theatre will hold auditions for “Plain Hearts,” a musical directed by Carlen Gilseth, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Arlene Theater, 115-1st St. SE. The script calls for six females with musical ability. Anyone interested but unable to make an audition time, please call 858-3178. Show dates are Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26.
