Long wait for summer
Hot summer temperatures were delayed in arriving in Minot based on weather data from the North Central Research and Extension Center, south of the city.
“This past month of July we had a monthly average temp of 66.3 degrees,” said Jim Tarasenko, research specialist at the center. “This is below the average temp of 67.3 degrees last year for the same month and the 108-year long-term average of 68.5 degrees.”
Tarasenko said the highest temperature for the month was 90 degrees set on July 5.
Rainfall for the month was 2.19 inches, Tarasenko said. He said this compares with 5.82 inches a year ago for the same period and the 108-year long-term average of 2.35 inches.
Moisture for the year so far since Jan. 1 has been 13.92, Tarasenko said. He said this compares with the long-term average of 11.18 inches.
Summer weather might have finally arrived. National Weather Service forecasters say the temperatures will be in the 80s through Monday. There’s a chance of thunderstorms Saturday through Monday.
