Rugby juniors capture State Shoot

A five-member junior shooting team from Rugby broke the most clay targets in a 10-team field to claim the title in the 15- to 18-year-old Juniors Division at the North Dakota State Trapshooting event held at the Minot Gun Club July 23-27.

The Rugby marksmen broke a total of 451 of 500 targets, three more than runner-up Devils Lake and four better than Minot’s Junior No. 2 team.

Shooting for Rugby were Bryer Erickson, 94 of 100; Matthew Oksendahl, 93 of 100; Reid Mundahl and Austin Erickson, each 91 of 100; and Kaden Jaeger, 82 of 100.

The top performance at the line went to Alex Krick of Bismarck, who broke 96 of 100 targets.

In the Under 15 Juniors Division, Walsh County ruled with a 438 of 500. They were led by a pair of 89s turned in by Steven Thompson and Tom Magnusson. Minot’s sub-junior squad was runner-up with 403 of 500. Tylo Mahoney led Minot with an 89. Nine teams participated in the Under 15 competition.

Minot Gun Club Junior Shooting Director Bill Nieman was named “Sportsman of the Year” by the North Dakota Trapshooting Association.
