Marlys Jean Brockell, 76, Minot, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at her home in Minot.
Marlys was born on Feb. 11, 1938, in Velva, the daughter of Lars and Christine (Sanderson) Stenvold. She was raised in Velva until the age of 12 when the family moved to Minot. She later helped on the family farm in Harvey for a few years and then when she was 20 moved to Great Falls, Mont. Marlys was once married to Charles Blanchard. Marlys lived in Michigan for a few years and, in 1975, moved back to Minot where she worked for the Ramada Inn for more than 25 years.
Marlys married Richard Brockell in 1983. Richard passed away shortly after their marriage from an accidental fall.
Marlys’ grandchildren were the love of her life. She enjoyed the Norsk Hostfest, especially Bjoro Haaland, shopping at the mall, visiting friends and cross stitching.
Survivors: son, Bryon (Tonya) Blanchard, Wakarusa, Ind.; daughters, Christine Blanchard, Donna Patzner and Melody (Charles) Johnson, all of Minot; grandchildren, Terry Patzner Jr., Maxwell Patzner, Simon Blanchard and Rowan Blanchard; sisters, Laura Leibelt, Fessenden, and June Streitz, Minot.
Marlys was preceded in death by: her husband, Richard; parents; and siblings, Mabel Coffey, Selma Buethe, Marion Nelson, Lars, Arnold, Lloyd and Joe Stenvold.
Memorial Service: Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
Burial will be: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Velva Community Cemetery, Velva.
