Grants awarded to combat violence against women

The Justice Department’s Office on Violence Against Women has named the recipients of a combined $3 million Bakken Region special initiative to support local communities in victim support and law enforcement in western North Dakota and on the Fort Berthold Reservation.

North Dakota’s congressional delegation announced the grants this week.

Three organizations in North Dakota will receive funds to expand their work assisting victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking.

The organizations are the Three Affiliated Tribes on the Fort Berthold Reservation, First Nations Women’s Alliance in Devils Lake and North Dakota Council on Abused Women’s Services in Bismarck.

The Three Affiliated Tribes will also receive a three-year, $450,000 grant to support the salary, travel, and training costs of a tribal prosecutor who will be cross-designated to serve as a tribal special assistant United States attorney in the local U.S. Attorney’s Office.
