June 28, 1934-Aug. 26, 2014
Carol (Michalenko) Hendrickson, 80, Bismarck, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
Carol was born June 28, 1934, and was the daughter of Peter Jr. and Bertha (Suckert) Michalenko. She grew up in the Butte and Kief areas, and graduated high school in Butte. She received a teaching certificate from Minot State and taught in a rural school south of Butte. She later moved to St. Paul, Minn., and worked in a box factory, but returned home when her sister, Ramona, got cancer.
Carol married Arlyn Hendrickson on Jan. 19, 1957, and they had two children, Randy and Penny. They lived in Minot, Elgin, Mott and finally settled in Bismarck. Carol was a homemaker while Randy and Penny were growing up and was a wonderful mother. After her career as a homemaker, she worked for several years for the N.D. Motor Vehicle Department where she developed many long-lasting friendships that continued after her retirement. She treasured her monthly outings with her friends from motor vehicle. Carol was very grateful for all her special friendships that she made over the years.
Carol loved to cook and bake, whether it was for big family meals, holiday gatherings or weddings, making doll cakes for her granddaughters or caramel rolls for Jesse; she loved doing it all. She enjoyed painting, singing, listening to Patsy Cline and Danny O’Donnell, and playing bingo. Her smile could light up a room and she loved to laugh. Carol shared a special relationship with her granddaughter, Jesse, and from about the age of 3, when Jesse learned to dial grandma’s phone number, they talked almost every day. The most recent event that Carol was so proud of was sharing her birthday with her newest great-grandchild, Alayna.
Carol is survived by: her children, Randy (Vickie) Hendrickson and Penny Blotsky; grandchildren, Holly (Josh) Cremeans, Jesse (Todd) Huber, Katie Hendrickson (Michael Moyer) and Jake (Katie) Hendrickson; great-grandchildren, Shayne, Dylan, Ellie and Alayna; and sisters, Roberta (Rick) Liebner and Cindy (Ron) Nechiporenko.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her sister, Ramona; and her twin brothers, Jack and John.
