Minot High edges Packers in opener

WEST FARGO – On Friday evening, the Minot High football team kicked off its 2014 campaign with a 20-12 road victory over West Fargo.

Senior running back Karter Gorney scored on runs of 47 and 53 yards to pace the Magicians, who host Fargo Davies next Friday.

Junior quarterback Ben Bolinske opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and recorded an interception on defense in the fourth quarter to help Minot ice the game.

West Fargo cut the deficit to 7-6 and 14-12, but failed to convert an extra and two-point conversion.

Majettes winless at Bismarck Invite

BISMARCK – The Minot High volleyball team went 0-3 on the first day of the Bismarck Invite on Friday.

The Majettes (0-3) lost 2-1 to both West Fargo (25-27, 27-25, 15-5) and Valley City (25-14, 25-27, 15-12) and were swept by Fargo Davies (25-18, 25-14, 15-11) in their final match.

Minot seniors Brooke Suko, Melora Haagenson and Kaitlyn Stenberg led the team with six kills on the day. Senior setter Sydney Gerding had 15 assists and Meggan Wahl had 14. Gerding also led the Majettes with five aces. Haagenson led the way with five blocks and Suko compiled 25 digs.

The Bismarck Invite conludes today.
