Alberts reinstated as candidate

NEW TOWN An associate judge for Fort Berthold District Court ruled Thursday that Vonnie Jo Alberts be reinstated by the Three Affiliated Tribes Election Board as an official candidate for Four Bears Segment representative to the tribal business council.

According to a news release issued by Alberts’ campaign committee, the board erroneously ruled that Alberts had not met the standard required due to an Election Board challenge concerning an unfounded delinquent payment. The tribes’ chief financial officer, during testimony, acknowledged that Alberts had no delinquet debts with the tribes and that she submitted timely proof to the Election Board that she did not owe money to the tribe.

The Election Board confirmed the court’s ruling.

Four other candidates are also running for the Four Bears Segment seat to the tribal business council. The primary election will be held Tuesday, followed by the general election in November.
