MSU football names 2014 captains

Six Minot State football players – four seniors, one junior and one sophomore – were selected as 2014 team captains, coach Tyler Hughes announced Thursday.

Seniors Levi Freidt (defensive back), Casey Weinmann (linebacker), Mike Hickman (DB), Leon LaDeaux (wide receiver) are joined by junior quarterback Zac Cunha and sophomore offensive lineman Chad Sickles.

“Captains are an integral piece to the leadership of any team,” Hughes said in a press release. “I want our captains to represent our core belief system, be responsible citizens and to have a great work ethic. Our team votes on captains, and I feel they selected six great representatives of our program.”

Weinmann and Freidt have played a combined 64 games over the past three seasons. Freidt also leads active MSU players with 26 career starts.

Cunha will make his 22nd straight start at quarterback Saturday against Sioux Falls.
